Opawica Explorations Inc. has commenced its 2025 drill program at the Bazooka Property, located in the renowned Abitibi Gold Belt near Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. The property's strategic positioning contiguous with Agnico Eagle's Wasamac gold project presents significant potential for gold mineralization based on previous exploration results. This proximity to established mining infrastructure enhances the economic viability of any potential discovery.
The current drilling initiative focuses on expanding upon the promising findings from the 2022 drill program, which revealed multiple high-grade gold intersections including 18.70 grams per tonne of gold over a one-meter interval within a larger 43.9-meter section containing quartz-sericite stockwork and trace pyrite with visible gold. Blake Morgan, President of Opawica, expressed confidence in the property's potential, highlighting the presence of historical mineralization, visible gold, and promising geological structures.
The drill program will strategically target areas with step-outs of approximately 50 meters from the previous drilling campaign, systematically testing the continuity of high-grade gold mineralization along southwest and west-striking geological planes. Geological analysis indicates that gold mineralization on the Bazooka Property occurs within mixed geological zones, including quartz-carbonate-sericite and talc-chlorite schists associated with sedimentary and volcanic protoliths.
These mineralized zones are spatially connected to the Cadillac-Larder Lake break/fault zone, a major structural feature known for hosting significant gold deposits throughout the Abitibi region. Previous sampling has revealed complex mineralization zones including silicified shear zones with quartz veining and trace minerals like tourmaline and fuchsite, indicating a robust hydrothermal system.
Rigorous quality assurance and quality control protocols have been implemented for the sampling and analysis process, with samples processed at Techni-Lab Abitibi Inc., an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited facility ensuring precise and reliable geological data collection. The drilling program represents a systematic approach to understanding and potentially expanding the gold resources within the Bazooka Property, leveraging both historical data and modern exploration techniques.
